The dragon boat race organised by the Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers happens annually and this year saw the sixth year for the event which takes place at Wykeham Lakes. The event which was held on the 12th June sees teams made of 16 paddlers plus a drummer race over a 250 yard course in a series of heats with the fastest teams taking part in a final race off.

Yorkshire Coast College (YCC) staff and students have taken part in the event for the past 3 years. This year staff and student members took part for their chosen charity the RNLI. The money for local charities comes from the team collecting individual sponsorship.

Leila Murphy Learning Support Tutor at YCC organised the team. Leila said: ‘I love taking part in The Dragon Boat Race, it’s a fantastic opportunity to raise money for charity and come together as a college some of Yorkshire Coast College’s Catering and Hospitality Students helped out with the catering at the event.’
