Children’s day care service providers, Wise Owl Private Day Nursery, has been awarded the Grimsby Institute award for Training Excellence at the Northern Lincolnshire Business Awards 2015.
Wise Owl Private Day Nurseries are a small chain of children’s day nurseries based in Scunthorpe and Messingham offering day care and fully-funded term time places for children aged 0-5 years.
Toni Krajnik, Managing Director of Wise Owl Group, explained why training was so important to the organisation: “In the Childcare sector training is important because without good staff you can’t provide good care. We try to excel in every area in the Nursery and we try really hard to exceed Ofsted requirements and one of those requirements is that 50% of staff working in Childcare settings are trained to Level 2 or above.
“Approximately 95% of our staff are currently working towards the next Level of their education and a third of them are currently working towards a Level 6 qualification. We also fully embrace the Apprenticeship scheme. We recognise the value of training and what that means. As soon as one of our Nursery Nurses qualifies to Senior Level they offered the chance to progress on to our in-house Management Scheme.
“Because we’re an expanding company, when we open another setting, we already have staff that are fully trained to go into managerial positions. Having fully-trained staff makes a quality Nursery.
Toni continued: “It was pretty amazing to win this award, it’s great that someone has recognised the work that we do. I don’t think anyone realises the effort we put into encouraging our staff to do well, but then they don’t really need any encouragement, they are all very keen and really take on everything on we give them.”
Amanda Rudolph, Grimsby Institute Group’s Assistant Principal (Curriculum & Higher Education), said: “I’m delighted the Wise Owl Group were awarded this title as they demonstrate an excellent commitment to staff training at all levels of the organisation and this has made a clear impact on the quality of provision.
“The value they place on the development of their staff, the excellent progress made by individuals, the ambition and drive towards excellence and the long term strategy for continual professional development are just some of the reasons they deserve to win this award.”
