Students from Yorkshire Coast College are making the new Scarborough Town Crier costume. Students on the Historical and Performance Costume for Stage and Screen course will be using materials supplied by Boyes to create the new uniform. The former Scarborough Town Crier has retired after 30 years of service and a new appointment has been made. The idea came about as the Creative Arts Department designed the Filey Town Crier costume previously.
Sian Harrison, Yorkshire Coast College said:
“We’re delighted to have been asked to get involved in this project. By using modern creative techniques with a design that will respect the important historic nature of the role, our students will aim to bring together the very best of the past and present in a uniform fitting for Scarborough’s new town crier.”
Councillor Tom Fox, Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough added ‘I am really pleased that Yorkshire Coast College is supporting this very important partnership with the Council and we are looking forward to working with the students in producing a new Town Crier uniform and particularly, the start of a new era.’
