SMT scrub down for St Andrew\'s Hospice

The Senior Management Team (SMT) from the Grimsby Institute Group recently took advantage of the sunshine and donned wellies and rubber gloves to clean cars belonging to members of staff – all in aid of Principal’s Charity, St Andrew’s Hospice.

Alan Bird, the Group’s Finance Director and Chair of the Fundraising Committee for St Andrew’s Hospice, explained: “We are now into our third year of supporting St. Andrew’s Hospice. They continue to be very important to many people in the region and many of our staff and students will have known a relative or friend who has been helped by the Hospice.

“They receive very little in the way of funding and rely on donations in order to carry on their good work. We raise money for the Hospice but also provide them with facilities for events and a number of our staff and learners have volunteered their time freely in support.”

Alan Bird organised a charity auction where SMT agreed to give up their time to wash the cars of the highest bidders, with seven members of staff winning the chance to see SMT up to their elbows in soap and water.

The Grimsby Institute is holding two major events for the Hospice over the next two months; in June, we are hosting a Sunday Afternoon Tea Party for St Andrew’s own volunteers and in July, we host the St Andrew’s Sleepwalk, when over five hundred ladies will set out at midnight from our Nuns Corner campus on a sponsored walk through Grimsby, covering 11.5 miles.

Alan continued: “We’re providing marshalling, refreshments and massages for the aching limbs after the Sleepwalk and will be serving the food and drinks at the Tea Party. Our SMT have always been fully supportive of our efforts for St Andrew’s and that just showed today, with the enthusiasm in which they washed the cars and generally soaked each other!”

The car wash element of the auction in December raised over £400 for the charity, with the total raised being over £1,900.
