Outstanding learners honoured at Lincolnshire Regional College’s Brilliance Awards 2015

Learners from across Lincolnshire Regional College (LRC) joined their tutors, support staff, families and friends for the annual Brilliance Awards, celebrating learner excellence and dedication in an award ceremony, at The Storehouse in Skegness, where 11 learners were awarded prizes sponsored by some of the region’s top employers.

The Brilliance Awards have been running for five years, and over 100 guests were invited by LRC’s Interim Head of Centre, Rachel Richardson, to join in the celebrations. Rachel said: “It’s a great achievement to even be nominated as a Learner of the Year within their different areas and all of the nominees need to be celebrated and congratulated.”

Learners were presented with certificates, trophies and special prizes by the award sponsors, which this year has seen sponsors including; Linkage Community Trust, Matrix, CFBT Careers, Lincs Hospitality Training and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.

The Lincolnshire Regional College’s Learner of the Year Award 2015 was presented to Electrical Installation learner, Cooper Ridal, 17, a former Pupil at John Spendluffe School. Cooper said: “I wanted to come to LRC because I live in Alford and it’s close. I love learning new things as we go along and the practical side of the course.   I’m now going up to Level 2 and then I’ll go on to Level 3 and might even think about Plumbing. I want to be an Electrician when I finish.

“The Tutors at the College are really nice and the other learners are amazing, they’re all down to earth and easy to make friends with. Everyone knows everyone and it’s such a nice atmosphere, I really love it!”

Principal Guest for the evening, Doreen Stephenson, former leader of East Lindsey District Council, has always been a keen advocate of the College. Doreen said: “I’m delighted to have been invited to the Brilliance Awards again. Each year that I come here I meet new people, see the progress that is being made and congratulate everyone, not just the winners but those who have been nominated.

“There is such a range of courses on offer at LRC. Every time I go to the Heath Road campus I thoroughly enjoy it. Confidence is a great skill and that is something that Lincolnshire Regional College is striving to give their learners slowly and gradually until they are successful.”
