Yorkshire Coast College are proud to announce the launch of seven new higher education programmes including four Foundation Degrees and three HNDs (Higher National Diplomas) at their main campus on Lady Edith’s Drive and Westwood Campus on Valley Bridge Parade, Scarborough. The new range of programmes, which begin in September 2014, have been created to not only meet the demands of the local community, but have also been specifically designed to meet the needs of local employers and economy.
Foundation Degrees on offer include; Social Care, Events Management, Sport and Recreation Management and Tourism Management.
A Foundation Degree is a unique degree level qualification designed for people working in or aspiring to work within a particular industry. A Foundation Degree allows learners to combine practical skills, tailored specifically to the needs of employers, with academic knowledge. Equivalent to the first two years of a traditional Bachelors Degree, a Foundation Degree is a much more flexible and often less expensive option for those, who for many reasons, may want to either study part time, stay close to home or work in small class sizes, experiencing more one-to-one contact with tutors.
Yorkshire Coast College Principal Clare Wareing explains: “A Foundation Degree is also a great way for local employees to improve their skills and gain a recognized academic qualification, which in many cases could help improve career prospects. We are really excited to be able to launch and support the local community with a new range of quality Higher Education Programmes in Scarborough. This initiative expands the existing and highly regarded Higher Education offer at Yorkshire Coast College in BA Fine Art and BA Historical Costume for Stage and Screen.”
Also on offer are three HNDs in Mechanical Engineering, Construction and Performing Arts.
