New HGV course to meet demand in job market

A new Motor Vehicle Maintenance course will be available from September aimed at learners aged 16-19. The HGV Level 2 qualification has been developed by the Automotive Engineering department to meet a demand in the local sector. In the last six months there have been over 120 jobs advertised and currently, in Grimsby alone, there are around 100 haulage companies.

The course is accredited by the Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) and there are limited places available. It will give learners a chance to work in professional workshops, with industry standard equipment and real HGV vehicles.

This is the first time the Level 2 course has been run here at the Grimsby Institute. Curriculum Manager, Matt Holness, said: “We’ve got a great team of staff who are qualified to run the course, with the current demand in the local sector we thought this would be the perfect time to launch it and in turn, grow our department”.

Those interested in applying can contact the Institute on the freephone number – 0800 315 002 or email – infocent@grimsby.ac.uk
