National quality mark achieved by Learner Services

The Learner Services team within the Grimsby Institute Group has been accredited with the nationally recognised quality mark for organisations which provide support to individuals to make learning and work more accessible – the matrix Standard.

The Grimsby Institute’s Learner Serivces team gained accreditation to the matrix Standard over three days of assessment during which staff were interviewed alongside representatives from curriculum areas, external partner organisations – including employers and 22 learners from across the Group.

The matrix Standard is the unique quality framework for the effective delivery of information, advice and/or guidance on learning and work. It promotes the delivery of high quality information, advice and/or guidance by ensuring organisations review, evaluate and develop their service; encourage the take up of professionally recognised qualifications and the continuous professional development of their staff.

Susan Wells, the Grimsby Institute’s Learner Advice Manager, said: “We are required by the Skills Funding Agency to achieve the matrix Standard, but it is a great testament to the high standard of information, advice and guidance we offer that we achieved it and received such positive feedback.

“We offer independent, impartial progression guidance in addition to a breadth of pastoral and academic guidance and support services, which were reviewed as part of the assessment process. The assessment covered Leadership and Management, Resources, Service Delivery and Continuous Quality Improvement. Thanks to all learners and staff who supported the assessment.”

David Allan, Managing Director at emqc Ltd, who are appointed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to administer and manage the delivery of the matrix Standard, said of the Grimsby Institute’s achievement:
