Liliya goes down the rabbit hole to competition success

Level 2 Hair & Media Make-up learner, Liliya Crossley, designed an Alice in Wonderland themed look that saw her winning third place at the Olympia Beauty Show in London.

Liliya, who moved to the UK a few years ago from the Ukraine, started as a mature learner on one of the short intro courses at the Sure Start Centre. With a natural flair Liliya enrolled for Level 1 Hairdressing proving to be incredibly creative and she is now training in Hair & Media Make-up design.

When she was offered the chance to take part in the competition Liliya was very eager to compete, Liliya said: “Because the competition was in London and there was lots of students from other colleges I thought there was no way I’d win but I wanted to be there and to take part.

“My creation was a steam punk rabbit with a papier mache pocket watch, and then half of my model’s head was the Queen of Hearts and half was Alice; lots of different bits from the book showing Alice’s adventures.

“It was lovely and there was such a good atmosphere. The judges were also very friendly. When I was announced as third in the overall competition I couldn’t believe it. I enjoy taking part in the competitions and it’s good for my future.”
