Congratulations to Yorkshire Coast College VRQ Level 2 Professional Cookery learner, Jack Miladinovic. Jack won the District Final of the Rotary Young Chef of the Year Competition. Jack will now compete in March at Halifax for a place in the final round.
Jack who is 17, impressed the judges at the recent round at Betty’s Cookery School in Harrogate with his menu. Jack created a 3 course meal with the aim of being healthy and within a budget of £15.
The menu consisted of prawn toast with king prawns, chilli, garlic and coriander salad for starter. Sea bass with parsnip purée, braised sweet corn, samphire, brown shrimp butter and parsnip crisps for main, followed by a deconstructed lemon cheese cake for dessert.
Jack had to cook the menu within 2 hours and produce 2 portions of each course. The competition was judged by two of the Betty’s Cookery School tutors. The tutors were very impressed with the overall standard of food and ability demonstrated.
The tutor said: “It was an absolute pleasure to eat Jack’s food it brought back fond memories of the special seafood dishes I used to cook when I was a head chef at the Drum and Monkey. The flavours were amazing, so well done to Jack and good luck for the next round.
