Wayne Oakley, HGV Student of the Year at his workplace

Level 3 Apprentice Wayne Oakley has won the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) award for HGV Student of the Year, making him the first person to win this same award two years in a row.

The award will be presented by the Hull and East Yorkshire Centre of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE), who are part of the SOE – a worldwide organisation with over 24000 members. The winning trophy is the Don Peak Rosebowl which was donated by Don Peak, a co-founder of this Centre in 1967 and it was first presented in 1974.

Wayne is working for AJ Tubbs Haulage Contractors in Snainton and has previously won The James Boyce Memorial Trophy for Meritorious Achievement in 2014.

The awards presentation will take place on April 11th at the Village Hotel, Hull at 7:30pm.

Andy McLellan, Yorkshire Coast College Apprenticeship Programmes Co-ordinator said “Wayne continues to go from strength to strength – excellent development at his workplace is reflected in his strong Level 3 exam results. It was a very well deserved award!”
