Grimsby Institute recently supported the Rotary Club of Cleethorpes’ entry into the Disability Games 2016 by offering transport to the competitors to attend the district finals in Scunthorpe.
The Rotary District 1270 Disability Games takes place in April of each year, with some competition winners going forward to the National Disability Games held in Coventry.
The 2013 and 2014 Games were hosted by The Rotary Club of Barnsley, Rockley and each attracted over 430 competitors from 22 teams. Each competitor, typically, takes part in 3 or 4 of the 10 different events, all of which are open to both adults and juniors, with events including; archery, boccia, darts, curling, rifle shooting, snooker, swimming, table tennis and wheelchair racing.
Steven Brickett, Rotarian, said: “We transported 30 disabled teenagers to Scunthorpe Leisure Pods
for the all day event. The Cleethorpes Disability Forum with learners from the Institute represented Grimsby and Cleethorpes. They won three events and came second in two more. Without the Instituted help we could not offer transport to so many handicapped young people.”
