The Intercollege Championship between the Grimsby Institute and Rotherham College has taken place for the 2nd year running at the Grimsby Institute. The teams from Rotherham were welcomed to the much anticipated competition by the staff and learners from the Institute. The competition challenged over 350 learners to compete over a number of curriculum areas including Animal Care, Brickwork, Health and Social Care, Media, Plumbing and many more.
The tasks were designed by the Institute’s teams to prepare learners for the pressure they may encounter in the work place. The teams were judged by members of staff and local employers with learners awarded first and second place certificates and medals.
Learners were presented with certificates and medals by Grimsby Town Football Club Goalkeeper James McKeown. The final scores for the competition saw Grimsby Institute announced as the winner with an overall score of 66 points and Rotherham College in second place with a score of 52.
Grimsby Institute CEO Gill Alton said: “It doesn’t matter who has won today, because what we have seen is a fantastic achievement by everyone who has taken part, it has showcased vocational education at it’s very best. It’s wonderful to see the learners and staff so passionate about what they do.
“I am so proud that we have managed to defend our title and win again this year, everyone has done so well and we are looking forward to a return competition next year at Rotherham College to defend our win.”
