Graduate Salon holds employer forum

Local hairdressing and beauty therapy employers recently attended an employer’s forum at the Grimsby Institute’s Graduate Salon.

Janice Yardley, Hair & Beauty’s Commercial & Technical Manager for the Graduate Salon in Grimsby, explained:

“We held an employers forum for local employers and invited them in to see the salons, to see what’s happening at the Institute and to give us their input. We’ve also seen talks from City & Guilds, the Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (CIBTAC) and the Francesco Group, so it has been very useful for employers and staff. The event has gone very well and it’s been nice to put faces to the names of the employers we work with.”

Zoe Dowson from Bee Beautiful salon in Grimsby was one of the employers who attended the event. Zoe said:

“I’ve been running a business in Grimsby for 22 years and I’ve had an Apprentice in the salon for the past year. I keep firing questions at the tutor and they took this opportunity to invite me in to gain some employer feedback on how we can work together to create the perfect employee.

“The information we received from CIBTAC was the most informative for me. Seeing where my students learn also means I can see how it works and I know what they’re talking about. It’s been a way of getting my voice across as to what we need. The facilities are fantastic and puts a very high standard on them, they really do have everything at the Institute.”
