The Graduate Salon staff and learners recently presented a cheque to Debra McNaughton for over £1000 as part of the Debs’ Fight 4 Life Campaign.
39-year-old Debra McNaughton was diagnosed with incurable Cancer and launched an appeal to raise £30,000 for an operation that would enable her to spend more time with her family. Hair and Beauty staff and learners from The Graduate Salon raised £1096.54 by organising a charity walk, a zumbathon and even donating their unwanted Christmas presents.
Grimsby Institute’s Learning Tutor and Specialist Coordinator, Louise Thomas, explained: “Tutor Anita Kershaw organised a sponsored walk from Nuns Corner to Cleethorpes Pier and back, we held two one-and-a-half hour zumbathons and Judith Wressle donated £230 from her zumba classes, donating her time for free, everyone thinks it’s really important for Debra to achieve her aim.”
Debra McNaughton added: “This is a massive amount which has brought us to only £1000 away from the target. I can’t even express what a difference that makes. I’ve been really surprised by the support from the community. The Grimsby Telegraph have made it a high profile story and the whole of Grimsby and Cleethorpes has really pulled together to support this, it’s been overwhelming.”
