Learners from Level 3 Childcare at the Grimsby Institute recently raised a fantastic £530.21 for When You Wish Upon A Star, a charity that grants wishes for children with life threatening illnesses and their families.
Hannah Bell, Lily Hurren and Heidi Perch organised the event which saw them taking over a room in the Further Education Learning Centre and selling home-made candles, book Christmas trees and hedgehogs, a giant cookie donated from one of the learners parents and other treats donated by the charity.
Seventeen-year-old Heidi Perch, who is currently training on the second year of the course, said: “I was thinking one day that I really wanted to go to Lapland. I suddenly realised it would be much better for me to raise money to help send sick children there instead.”
Hannah Bell, 19, added: “It was all Heidi’s idea but we’ve all really enjoyed helping out and I’m really pleased with how it’s gone. We’ve also dressed up and have been going around the Institute with buckets collecting money; I’ve been surprised at how supportive everyone has been but, of course, it’s a brilliant cause.”
