9 to 5 became business as usual at the Grimsby Institute when Sarah Jayne’s Dolly Parton Experience performed to fans, in aid of the Rotary Club of Cleethorpes, raising £400 for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
Performer, Sarah Jayne, has been performing for over 23 years and has supported Dolly Parton at the 02 Arena on two occasions. Her impressive show, The Dolly Parton Experience, included a back catalogue of Dolly Parton’s greatest hits, including 9 to 5, Islands in the Stream and Coat of Many Colors, along with anecdotes about the irrepressible songstress. During the show Sarah Jayne even presented a cheque for £2000 to the Imagination Library she has raised throughout her nationwide tours.
Two students from the Grimsby Institute, Eden Rae Lake, currently training for Level 3 Music, and Cara Tidswell, who is studying from BA Creative Music, were invited to perform for the audience, where they both received praise for their original songs and interpretations respectively.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library was originally launched in Dolly’s home of Sevier County, Tennessee, USA. It fosters a love of reading among pre-school children by providing them with a free hardcover book every month from birth to the age of five.
Currently, the Imagination Library has programmes in over 1,700 communities across Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, over 800,000 children under the age of five receiving books from the Imagination Library each month, and over 70 million books have been donated to children since the programme first began in 1995.
The Rotary Club of Cleethorpes has supported for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for the past 18 months, originally launching a scheme in partnership with the Grimsby Institute’s Little Stars Day Nursery.
Rolf Sperr, from the Rotary Club of Cleethorpes, is a keen advocate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and was instrumental in bringing the Dolly Parton Experience to Grimsby. Rolf said:
“The Dolly Parton Experience was everything it promised to be and more! We had a fabulous night of entertainment from start to finish. It was great to see what remarkable local talent we have here too, and wonderful knowing all the proceeds made went to the Imagination Library, a fantastic cause.”
